You need some1 to journey with you when you are facing certain issues, I am here to listen. If you think you are ready to open a pandora box, I am here. If you need professional support, I am here. Of course helping hands does come with charges.
When your daily life is interrupted by the issues you are facing. Your routine is to go on. Your body and mind are not aligned. You feel that you need a lot of effort to do something you usually do. The prolonged issues are resulting difficulties in daily lives.
Nope. I don't. However, if I find that you are in need of drugs, I will refer you to a psychiatrist whether private or government based on your preference and we work together. Don't be afraid of the stigma. I am on medication myself. It is not that scary.

Psychotherapy requires the joint effort of both client and therapist. This therapeutic relationship between both parties is based upon trust and commitment, with both parties accepting responsibilities for keeping their appointments.

Please arrive on time for appointments. In the event that the client arrives late for an appointment, only the remaining time of the session will be available (e.g.: client arrives at 4:15 pm for a 4:00 pm session, only 45 minutes will be available), but the full scheduled session will be billed. Please contact our centre at +6018-206 7313 if you will be late for the session.

Cancellation of sessions with less than a day’s notice will incur a cancellation charge of 50% of the session fee. In the event of an emergency situation (i.e. sudden illness, accident, etc.), clients must immediately notify the therapist of the cancellation at least 2-hours in advance of the session. Failure to do so will also incur a cancellation charge of 50% of the session rate. Emergencies will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. In the event that the therapist must cancel a session, every effort will be made to reschedule a make-up session for the client.

The therapist is unable to provide 24-hour crisis service. If the client is feeling unsafe or requires immediate medical or psychiatric assistance, he/she should call emergency hotlines (e.g.: 999/112), or go to the nearest emergency room of public hospitals.

It depends on individuals. The first session would usually take longer as we need to know each other better and build trust between us. Then, we would work on the issues and look at the progress. On a usual basis, client sees me on bi-weekly basis for 4 - 6 months.
Unfortunately, no. I do not provide 24-hours emergency care. I am only able to provide appointment basis virtual or physical (Klang Valley) counselling | consultation services. However, you may call emergency hotlines or walk-in to nearest emergency department or government hospitals.
Payment is to be made upon making the appointment for the session. If you are late, I will still need to end the session on time. It is a mutual respect to both you and I on our punctuality and time management. If there is an extension needed, extra charges incurred to the bill.
The price is fixed for everyone unless there is promotion on-going. Existing clients will follow the existing prices if there is an increment in price. Unfortunately this is a helping career, I cannot simply quote prices to every single individual. It is ethics and professionalism.
My Safe Space holds a no-refund policy. That being said, if you made an appointment and did not show up, the fee will not be refunded. If you reschedule at least 24 hours before your session, there is no penalty. If you reschedule the very last minute, the fee incurred is taken as penalty.
Upon making the appointment online, you are required to make the payment using credit cards or debit cards. If you prefer to make the payment through online banking, e-wallets or Buy-Now-Pay-Later (BNPL) services, you may make the appointment through WhatsApp and QR code will be forwarded to you to make the payment. Joker Young - Consultant Senior Counselling Psychologist

The first online psychotherapy session is 90 minutes long. The clinical psychologist will get a full picture of our client’s mental health condition through psychological tests/assessments and an intake interview, as well as provide clients with a general direction as to how the therapeutic journey will proceed.

Some of the things that clinical psychologists will try to understand through the first session include:

  • What are the things that most concerned you right now? (Such as: low mood, or relationship concerns, etc.)
  • How long have these concerns bothered you, and when did these concerns start?
  • Have you, or are you currently accepting other forms of therapy? (Such as medication therapy)
  • Your personal background: such as information about your family, education, career, and relationship/marital statuses, etc.
  • Your personal interests (hobbies), or how do you handle stress, as well as your level of social support, etc.

During this intake process, all your private information will be kept confidential and safe. If after the intake process there is still time left in the first session, the psychotherapist will share with you his observations about your mental health condition (such as if you have symptoms that match with depression, etc.). The psychotherapist will also help you understand what started these problems, as well as the possible factors that sustained your current condition. They will also professionally consult you on the direction the therapeutic journey will take.

If subsequent psychotherapy sessions is needed for the clients, subsequent sessions will usually be 60 minutes long (unless special circumstances).

Client’s personal health data is extremely important in online therapy. We follow the telepsychology guideline set by the American Psychological Association (APA). The software that we are using for online therapy is Google Meeting App that complies with the standard of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) for keeping client’s data safe and secure.

The fee charged covers the entire process of diagnosis, which includes:

The intake session: This session is for both the child and parents, or for the adult only (if it is for an adult).

The diagnosis session: This is the second session, during which the client needs to be present for the diagnosis or assessment, which takes about 2 hours.

The report: The report will take about 2 to 3 weeks to be generated. An appointment will be scheduled via WhatsApp when it is ready.

The report giving session: This is the third session, during which the report will be handed over to the client physically, explained in detail, and referrals and suggestions will be provided.

As certain diagnoses or assessments can only be conducted by a clinical psychologist, I will be referring the diagnostic part to someone else to handle it.

If you wish to continue therapy with us at MY Safe Space, arrangements will be made accordingly.

Psychotherapy or talk therapy is a way to help clients in the face of emotional difficulties and personal concerns including, but not limited to: difficulties to cope with daily life; trauma; the death of a loved one; and specific mental disorders, such as depression or anxiety disorders. Psychotherapy is a process to help clients of all ages better understand oneself, and how their thoughts and feelings influence the way they behave, react, and relate to others, leading an enjoyable and satisfying life.

The first psychotherapy session usually starts with an intake assessment of problematic symptoms and maladaptive behaviors that have affected the client’s functioning in various aspects of life. Psychotherapy is a joint effort between client and therapist; the progress may vary based on the particular concerns or issues being addressed as well as the client’s willingness to participate in the therapeutic process.

The first session is usually an assessment of your presenting issues. We may inform you to come in a little early to fill out some paperwork if you haven’t already done so. You won’t have to worry about what to do in the session, as the psychologists are trained to guide each session in effective ways to help you achieve your goals. A typical intake session lasts 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes. In fact, the first session is an interview which consists of questions to understand your background history. At the end of your first session, the psychologist may suggest you with some immediate action, such as seeing a physician, to rule out any underlying medical conditions or getting a consultation from a psychiatrist to stabilize your mood before working through the issues.

Psychotherapy is suitable for individuals under the age of 18, including children and adolescents. Before beginning therapy, it is customary for both the client and therapist to sign an ‘informed consent’ form. For individuals under 18, parental or guardian consent is required to sign the consent form. Once signed, therapy can proceed.

Therapy sessions carry both benefits and risks. These benefits may include, but are not limited to, reduced distress in feelings and thoughts, increased self-confidence, improved interpersonal relationships, increased comfort in work, academic, and/or daily activities.

In therapy sessions, clients may experience personal discomfort or unpleasant feelings (such as sadness, guilt, anxiety, anger, frustration, loneliness, or helplessness) when recalling or discussing uncomfortable experiences or situations with the therapist. This is one of the considered risks of psychotherapy.

During the therapeutic process, many clients may feel worse before they feel better, which is generally the normal course for psychotherapy. Personal growth and change can be easy and smooth at times, but may also be slow and frustrating. The client should address any concerns he/she has regarding their progress in therapy with the therapist.
